It could be done, and it has been done. Seven days ago, we said goodbye to Spark Nation 3.0, closing the chapter on an unforgettable week. For seven days, students, teachers, scholars, volunteers, adjudicators, and delegates from across West and Central Africa gathered at the Pastoral Centre in Abakaliki. They arrived with a shared purpose: to learn, debate, connect, and grow. Before we celebrate our official winners, let us look back at the incredible numbers that made this gathering possible: 97 students, 38 teachers, 53 volunteers, 14 delegates, and 31 participating schools.
The journey started on Sunday, June 28th, as buses rolled into camp from every direction. Longtime friends reunited while new faces found their footing. By nightfall, formal welcomes were completed, dinner was served, and everyone settled in ahead of a week that would demand their absolute best and give back even more.
Day One kicked off with coaster buses, generously provided by the Ebonyi State Government, carrying participants to the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Ebonyi State University for the official opening ceremony. The room held real weight. Representing the Executive Governor, Right Honourable Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, was the Chief of Staff to the Ebonyi State Government, Professor Emmanuel Amagu Echiegu. He was joined by Professor Ike Elechi Ogba, Mr. Chinedu Ugbah, Professor Akachi Adimora Ezeigbo, and Evangelist Barrister Nnamdi Okezie Joseph. Following the Governor's opening remarks, Mr. Raymond Chuma Onwuoku led an interactive session on the art of debating, offering the first real taste of the intellectual sharpening ahead.
The evening brought one of the week's defining moments through five thematic breakout clusters, each led by a subject matter expert. Mr. Chinedu Ugbah steered the Leadership cluster, Pastor Yomi Adeyinka headed Entertainment, Mr. Raymond Chuma Onwuoku led Entrepreneurship, Evangelist Barrister Nnamdi Okezie Joseph directed Religion, and Mrs. Grace Anuforo guided Education. Team names were assigned that night, officially launching the debate competitions and introducing the contenders.
What followed over the coming days was the true heart of Spark Nation 3.0. Fierce quiz and debate competitions tested not just knowledge, but composure, teamwork, and conviction. Only a handful could walk away with the crown, and we are thrilled to announce our champions.
In the Debate category, Chukwuemeka Prosper from St. Michael's Comprehensive Secondary School in Nimo, Anambra State, alongside Alum Kelyn from White Cloud Schools in Abakaliki, claimed the ultimate victory. The Debate Runners Up spots went to Enuka Chimbusomma from Mater Amabilis Secondary School in Anambra, and Nwankwo Perpetua from Christ Angels International School in Abakaliki.
In the Quiz category, John Udude Nnachi and Onya Prince from CSMT emerged as the winners. The Quiz Runners Up were Eze Seth and Atukpa David, representing the Federal Technical College in Amuzu.
Every winner and runner up goes home with a university scholarship. Furthermore, the teachers of the winning teams each received a 200,000 Naira cash prize as a token of appreciation for the outsized role they played in getting their students to the top. These individuals faced the heat, stood their ground, and brought home the victory. Congratulations to every one of you. You have made Spark Nation incredibly proud.
